Small Molecule Drug for Treatment-Resistant Breast Cancer in Phase II Trial

Telik, Inc. announced it is beginning a Phase II trial of its small molecule drug candidate, TLK286, as a therapy for treatment-resistant breast cancer.

TLK286 is a small molecule drug that targets tumors that over-express a protein that is linked to the development of resistance to commonly used chemotherapy drugs. The action of TLK286 in tumor cells suggests a potentially selective, more effective and directed cancer drug, especially in treatment-resistant cancers, researchers said.

The Phase 2 trial will be the first TLK286 trial focused on breast cancer using the new weekly dosing schedule that takes advantage of the tolerability of the drug.
