The Avon Foundation
is bowing out of the four-year-old Avon Breast Cancer three-day
walks held in cities across the United States to raise money for
breast cancer research.
The 2002 walks
will be their last as Avon says they will be pursuing other fundraising
ideas.
The annual
walks will continue without Avon's involvement, according to a
representative from Pallotta TeamWorks, the event's professional
organizer. A new sponsor for the walks has not yet been identified.
"Avon
remains fully committed to the success of the 2002 series of thirteen
Breast Cancer 3-Days and to the responsible management and disbursement
of the net funds raised this year," said Kathleen Walas,
President of the Avon Foundation. "Avon's 10-year commitment
to the breast cancer cause is unwavering, and we will continue
our fund raising in the U.S. and around the world in 2002 and
2003 and beyond."
